Veteran Academy Community Guidelines

Veteran Academy
exists to help equip Veterans for their next mission - massive success in the civilian world.  This Community is an extension of that mission.

We're here to support, challenge, learn, and share with other veterans as we grow and achieve together.

Follow the guidelines below, and we'll get along just fine.

What IS allowed:

The goal is to create a Positive, Challenging, Uplifting, and Respectful Learning Environment.

  • POSITIVE:  Bring a solution mindset.  If you don't have a solution, then ask.  We're about helping each other solve problems and move forward not rolling around in crap.  (Remember:  When you're going through hell, don't stop!")
  • CHALLENGING:  The civilian world challenges us in different ways than the military did.  The box is bigger, and we have more creative latitude.  Use it.  Feel free to challenge each other to be better - for ourselves, our families, our careers, and our nation.  Keep each other accountable.
  • UPLIFTING:  Yes, we're going to screw up.  Get over it.  We should look forward to being here with other veterans, and that happens best when we lift each other up and celebrate our wins and successes at least as much as we beat ourselves up for our failures.
  • RESPECTFUL:  Don't be a jerk, and don't accept if from others.  The first step is the respect we show ourselves, THEN we demonstrate it for others.
  • HONORABLE:  You've served; you understand the importance of the bonds we build.  Trust is more easily given the first time than it is to restore it after it's been broken.

You are responsible for how you interact with others.  Honor confidentiality if requested. Use the Direct Messaging feature or Private Live Rooms for information you want to share with an individual but not with the larger community.

Sharing Links

You may share links to your social media profiles, websites, and/or any external resources that you have found helpful.

However, you are not allowed to share links for promotional purposes, whether for yourself or as an affiliate for someone else.  If you're here just to take, go somewhere else.

Ask for / Give Feedback Circle

If you want feedback on something you’re dealing with, then use the Ask For / Give Feedback Circle.  You can get thoughtful (hopefully) feedback, insights, and perspectives.  Whatever you're going through, someone has probably been through it.  This is also a powerful method to add value to each other.  Your insight and perspective may be the one thing a fellow veteran needs to move forward.  We recommend that you participate actively, and try to give at least as much help as you get.

Celebrate Wins Circle
Let's learn to celebrate the successes we've had.  If we don't celebrate them, chances are no one else will.

Breaking the Code Circle
This is the replays and discussion about the Meetup topic of the week and any other general conversations about success in the civilian world.

Meetup "Live Room"

The Live Room is "always on for community members to have live virtual meetings with each other in a Zoom-like experience. An example might be you're having a real-time text chat in the Ask for / Give Feedback Circle and you would rather have a quick conversation about the topic. You can just jump into the live room and have a conversation at any time.

What is NOT allowed in this Community

Self-Promotion or Affiliate Promotion

While sharing of links is permitted in community posts for the purposes of asking for feedback, celebrating wins, and sharing helpful external resources, it is expressly not permitted to share links that are promotional in nature, either for self-promotion or promotion of affiliate products and services.

Promotional links are any links that take the member to a landing page for an opt-in for a free resource, or which is designed to sell products or services that you provide or are provided by others with which you have an affiliate marketing link.

If you are unsure whether your link is promotional in nature, contact the support team.
